People who search on the internet for ways to get supplemental income are almost inevitably attracted to advertisements for free work from home jobs. Are free online work from home jobs safe or are all those opportunities just scams?

Certainly there are scams around but the real problem with free work from home jobs is that they almost inevitably turn out not to be jobs at all; you get to work from home but you won’t be an employee in the strict definition of that term; you won’t be employed by anyone, so you don’t get paid a set salary. The most popular form of free online work is online survey taking. Online paid surveys offer a legitimate way of earning money online. The market research industry is worth billions of dollars, so it’s not surprising that research companies will pay you a few dollars to provide your opinion on all manner of topics.
Get paid to read emails is another popular form of free online work. As with online surveys, you won’t be an employee with a regular salary; your income will be derived from the number of paid emails you read. The problem with get paid to read emails is that you have to read a huge number of emails before you reach the minimum level for payment.
The best way to make money to supplement your income from email reading is to recruit other people into the company to read emails. You will get paid a small percentage of their earnings on top of what you earn yourself, and that will help you to reach the payout threshold sooner. Be warned though, you would need to recruit a lot of people to get supplemental income at a worthwhile level from paid email reading only.
Earning money writing online is probably the best way to get supplemental income at a decent level. If you can write short articles in basic good English, you can earn good money working from home. You won’t be an employee; as with the previous examples of work from home jobs, you will be working as a freelancer. The difference with article writing online is that the rates of pay are good and, if you have specialised knowledge of certain subjects, the rates of pay can be quite exceptional.
